We provide services for disabled and disadvantaged people under two schemes – Health & Community Services and Work Choice.

Health & Community Services

Hertfordshire Logo

HCS is part of Hertfordshire County Council. We have a number of sessions per week available for service users from the HCS teams to undertake work based skills training. Experience shows that service users undertaking such opportunities at Watford Workshop benefit from spending time within a work environment, as well as the social contact while working and during their breaks.

Full account of each service user’s capabilities is taken when assigning tasks. We provide task-specific training within a work environment and this is complemented by more specific training such as numeracy, literacy, IT, food hygiene and cooking skills. This type of training is provided in one-to-one sessions or small groups.

Watford Workshop is suitable for HCS service users including those with Direct Payments and Personal Budgets who wish to attend up to nine half-day sessions per week and experience the world of work, and who will enjoy working alongside other disabled people on a variety of tasks.

Work Choice Scheme

We offer a supported employment scheme for people with disabilities who face barriers to finding and keeping a job. Work Choice is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (JobCentre Plus) and administered by Shaw Trust.

In accordance with our equal opportunities policy we ensure people have equal access to training and development opportunities within our well equipped workshop and the appropriate support, thus enabling individuals to realise their full potential and where possible to progress into mainstream employment.

As well as having our own in-house training facilities we also have access to local colleges and learning centres for more specialised support. We also work in partnership with other agencies in order to help individuals find work with mainstream employers.

For further details of the Work Choice programme contact the Disability Employment Advisor at your local JobCentre Plus.
